There’d be plenty of times when you watch an HD video on YouTube and wonder if you had the option just to download it onto your computer. Be it clips of celebrities, funny videos, high-definition action sequences, or larger than life drama coupled with some fantastic music, you’d have loved YouTube to have just one download option. Not to be.
That doesn’t hinder you from downloading the HD videos onto your computer using tools like Vidmate, though. Here are different methods to download videos, both for Mac and for PCs.
- Download HD videos usingkeepvid.com
Keepvid.com is a website that enables you to download HD videos. The process is simple. Open the site, paste the YouTube URL and then click Download.
You can choose from various choices – to save the file as an HD video, 720p, 360p and you even have the option to download the music just as a .mp3 file.
Note: Before you start downloading, install Java plugins to your browser since keepvid requires Java.
With Safari, you would not need any downloader or software. Open the URL and then pause the video after it is processed completely. You will have to wait for the video to fill up the progress bar. Once done, click Window from the menu bar and then select Activity. Choose your video, double click it and the download will begin automatically.
- Mozilla Firefox
You can use add-ons such as the DownloadHelper or the NetVideoHunter. To install these add-ons, just click Tools on the menu bar and then select Add-ons.
Note: Every download is limited to 8 minutes.
- Google Chrome
You can use add-ons on Chrome as well. From the menu bar, click Window and then select Chrome Web Store. Here, you can search for Ultimate YouTube Downloader. Once you paste the video URL, click the Download button. Choose the MP4 version or the FLV version and additionally, you can choose the video quality. (240p to 720p HD).
- VLC Media Player
You can download HD videos off your VLC media player as well.
To download videos, just follow the following steps:
- Open VLC and click the Media tab. Click Open Network Stream.
- Paste the URL link and then click Play.
- Once the video starts playing, go to Tools and then select Media Information.
- Copy the location of the video shown at the bottom of the tab.
- Open a browser and paste the copied location into the address bar. You can now open the particular HD video in your browser.
- Right-click on the video and select Save Video as the option.
